The Mental Health and Wellbeing Expo is held annually at the Murray Bridge Town Hall which is centrally located in the main street of Murray Bridge. This year we will be expanding out into the side street for a bigger and better community, festival feel! This year our theme is ‘5 Ways to Wellbeing – through nature’ with our guest speaker, Gardening Guru Sophie Thompson from the ABC’s Gardening Australia program speaking obout our mental health and the benefits of connecting to nature.
The aim of the 9th Mental Health and Wellbeing Expo is to raise awareness about the impact of stigma and discrimination for people with a mental illness in the rural community and to provide an opportunity for people in rural and remote communities to have an open and safe discussion about mental illness. The Expo provides an opportunity for the community to meet and have access to NGO’S and government organisations who provide mental health services in our local area, all in one space. The Mental Health and Wellbeing Expo also provides an opportunity for our community to connect to community. The planning committee works collaboratively to create an opportunity to promote mental health and wellbeing of people within the community that is fun, entertaining and free from stigma. The committee does this through providing opportunities to ‘come and try’ free massages, speak with community social groups such as Neighbourhood Watch, Country Women’s Association, add to a Community painting, pot a plant with Bunnings or make your own fruit smoothie on the Headspace Smoothie Bike! This year we will be encouraging community to sit in our outdoor café area and enjoy a free Vegie Burger and coffee and listen to acoustic music of some very talented local musicians.
